
Daniel (Danny) King
​
Chicago based clarinetist and woodwind doubler, Danny King, is remarked as a versatile musician and educator that inspires others. Recent awards include two winning positions in the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition, Illinois State University Concerto-Aria Competition Winner, and finalist in the ISU Band Concerto Competition and the U.S. Army Collegiate Concerto Competition.​ He holds additional awards in International Competitions including King’s Peak International Competition and Couperin International Music Competition. Because of his high level of performance and academic achievements, King is recognized as a Presser Scholar. His summer festival participation includes the orchestra fellowship at Miami Beach Classical Music Festival and participation in the DeCoda Chamber Music Festival. This summer he will be a clarinet fellow at the Newfound Chamber Winds Festival in Norfolk, Virgina.

Danny is a co-founder of the New York based wind quintet, Hydra Winds, under guidance of Grammy-nominated and founder of Imani Winds, Valarie Coleman. King can also be seen in Symphony in C, Chelsea Symphony Orchestra, various off-broadway musical theater and opera pit orchestras, and in the premiere NYC-based bass clarinet ensemble, Delicious Bass. When not performing, you may find Danny preparing music in the Performance Library at Manhattan School of Music and assisting through teaching and reception at one of the premiere Suzuki schools in Manhattan, Silver Music. Danny also devoted his time as a woodwind instructor teaching flute, clarinet, and saxophones to the Bloomington High School Marching Raider’s for four consecutive seasons, as well as elementary general music in the Bloomington-Normal, Illinois community.
Danny currently studies at the Manhattan School of Music under the guidance of Charles Neidich. He holds two bachelor's degrees in music education and clarinet performance from Illinois State University, where he studied under Dr. David Gresham.​ Previously, Danny studied with Trevor O’Riordan in his high school years.
